The Missouri Students Association is interested in pursuing a project that would add more features to MyZou, such as access to more student survey information and grade distributions, but Academic Affairs Chairman Ben Levin said there are no current plans to add features yet.
“We haven’t come out with a specific position on it,” Levin said about MSA. “It’s something we’ve talked about, and it’s something we might talk about with the registrar’s office in the future.”
Currently, the Academic Affairs committee is trying to find out what students are interested in.
“Part of our committee’s process is feeling out things, finding out what people react to,” Levin said.
The senators plan to wait until the spring 2012 semester to begin work.
“We wanted to see how registration went for last semester,” freshman senator Matt Kalish said.
Kalish has been spearheading the project and plans to meet with the Registrar’s Office within the next month.
He said he hopes to see more information about professors added to MyZou, such as student course evaluations, grade distributions and even TA evaluations.
“Something I’d personally like to see is all of the pertinent survey information from students that they take at the end of the year,” Kalish said.
He said students currently have to search outside websites for information on professors.
“By putting it through MyZou, it gets rid of an extra step students would have to take,” he said. “It would simplify the process considerably, making (MyZou) a ‘one-stop-shop’ so to speak.”
Levin said realizing the changes might take some time.
“The ball is not currently in our court,” he said at Wednesday’s senate meeting.
Levin said in an earlier interview that his committee’s goal is to provide the administration with the opinions of the students.
“We’re not a bunch of computer programmers and we’re not professional educators, so we would appreciate just being able to give feedback and to let the professors know what students are looking for,” he said.
