The ninth-annual Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival will be held Sept. 25-27 at Stephens Lake Park, and as the name suggests, eaters have a lot to look forward to.
Below is a list with descriptions of some of the vendors that will be present during the weekend-long festivities. For a full list of vendors visit the fest’s website [here] (http://rootsnbluesnbbq.com/).
**Broadway Brewery**: Founded in 2009 and located on 816 E. Broadway, Broadway Brewery believes in the benefit of consuming locally-sourced food and the importance of supporting other local businesses. According to their website, the brewery will be serving whole hog pork plates with one side of either succotash, dirty green tomato rice, gumbo, white cheddar or kale slaw.
**Strange Donuts**: First opening in Columbia about a year ago, Strange Donuts hopes to offer customers the most unique donuts on the market. Scrolling through Strange Donuts’s social media accounts showcases the kinds of unique (and strange) deserts the shop creates. “We always like to take it further,” co-owner Corey Smale says in an interview with Vox Magazine. “That’s just how we’ve made our name, and that’s what we’re going to continue to do.” The festival’s website also says that Strange Donuts will be offering a variety of different doughnuts at the event.
**Smokin’ Chick’s BBQ**: Specializing in barbecued foods, Smokin’ Chick’s BBQ offers smoked turkey, pork, beef or chicken prepared in-house with a special dry rub. The location on 3301 W. Broadway also offers a variety of classic sauces including hickory, sweet or hot. During the fall music festival, Smokin’ Chick’s BBQ will offer slabs of ribs, pulled pork, brisket, pulled chicken, slaw, BBQ beans and jerky. More information on their menu can be found on the event’s website.
**Grill-A-Brothers**: Started and operated by Patrick Dierkes and Daniel Thorne (two Columbia natives), the Grill-A-Brother’s food truck serves regional favorites with some of their own unique creations mixed in. According to their website, Grill-A-Brother’s will offer sandwiches like the Tony Montana, a Miami Cuban sandwich with a little spice, the drunken pork Sandwich, a variation on the classic Torta Ahogada and the Herbi sandwich, which is a vegetarian substitute.
**Dickey’s Barbecue Pit**: Priding themselves with authenticity and innovation, the Dallas-based restaurant has been serving Texas-style barbeque since 1941. According to their website, the location was initially opened by founder Travis Dickey, and it continues to smoke all its meats on-site. At the festival Dickey’s will be serving pork, brisket and chicken sandwiches, racks of ribs, beans, coleslaw, potato casserole, chips and cookies.
