A head-on collision involving two vehicles occurred Sunday evening, and the driver of one of the vehicles was arrested by the Columbia Police Department on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
According to a CPD release, the accident, which took place in the 4900 block of Clark Lane, occurred when a vehicle driven by Columbia resident Christopher Geinger swerved into the opposite lane and collided head-on with another vehicle, driven by Auxvasse resident Jacqueline Waller and containing two passengers, Benjamin Waller, also of Auxvasse, and a 2-year-old child.
The release stated Geinger was believed to have been under the influence at the time of the accident and was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault because he collided with another vehicle while intoxicated.
He was also arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jacqueline Waller was admitted to a hospital for injuries sustained at the scene of the accident, and Benjamin Waller was treated for minor injuries and later released. The child involved in the accident, who was fastened with a child restraint, was not injured.
Geinger received minor injuries from the accident that did not require medical treatment. Both vehicles involved in the accident received extensive damage and were towed from the scene.
