After two days of competition, the Missouri Tigers sit in sixth place with only junior J’den Cox left to wrestle. Cox is seeking his second national title in the championship round that starts later tonight.
**12:35 p.m:** Willie Miklus and Navy’s Matthew Miller went head to head in the 184-pound fifth place consolation match, with Miller defeating Miklus 4-2. The wrestlers battled each other in the first and second periods, going scoreless until Miller scored the first takedown to put him in the lead. Miklus almost finished a cradle attempt, but Miller ended up getting a reversal. With 10 seconds left to go in the match, Miklus was awarded two points for a reversal as he tried to save the match from a loss. The two-time sophomore All-American will stand on the podium as a sixth place national finisher for the Tigers
**11:50 a.m:** Lavion Mayes ended his wrestling season placing third in the nation when he won 3-2 in a tough bout against Oklahoma State’s Anthony Collica in the 149-pound third-place consolation match. With a takedown in the first period and an escape in the third period, Mayes held off Collica using long shots to the legs. With 10 seconds to go in the third period, Mayes knew he had the match locked in his favor and started celebrating with the crowd. The junior All-American finished his season with a 32-3 record for the Tigers.
**10:45 a.m:** Willie Miklus and Oklahoma State’s Nolan Boyd battled in the 184-pound third place consolation, with the sophomore losing 6-0. After a takedown by Boyd in the first period, Miklus could not get control of his opponent long enough to score points until the second period, where a takedown was initially ruled for Miklus. After video review, the officials overturned the call, saying the wrestlers were out of bounds and the takedown was called after the whistle was blown. Miklus did not have a chance to score any points in the third period, and he will wrestle for fifth place later today.
**10:35 a.m:** Redshirt freshman Daniel Lewis also took on Illinois’ Steven Rodrigues in the 165-pound semifinal consolation round. Following in Mayes’ footsteps, he acquired a pin of his own in the second period. Lewis went out strong and aggressive right away and got a takedown and a near-fall early in the first period. At the end of the first, he was leading 4-0 with over two minutes of riding time. The pin came when Lewis didn’t let Rodrigues escape from a strong hold, getting him on his back and grabbing the fall. Lewis will also head to the third-place match later today. The two pins from Mayes and Lewis have helped the Tigers grab bonus points in the last day of the national tournament, in hopes of moving up from their sixth-place standing at the end of yesterday.
**10:30 a.m:** Junior Lavion Mayes took on the 149 pound semi-final consolation round against Michigan’s Alec Pantaleo with quick reflexes and aggressiveness to win by fall at the end of the first period. The match started out quick with a takedown from Pantaleo, but Mayes responded fast with a reversal. After about a minute of riding time, Mayes was able to get Pantaleo on his back for the pin. Jumping up to pump the crowd up, Mayes will head to the third-place consolation match later today.
