After its successful sixth-place finish last week in the Jim West Challenge, Missouri women’s golf competed at the Mercedes Championship in Knoxville, Tennessee, looking for more positive results. The tournament began Sept. 18 and finished Sept. 19 at the Par-71 course at Cherokee Country Club.
The starters for the team’s second tournament of the season were juniors Emma Allen, Marit Harryvan, Cayce Hendrickson, sophomore Jessica Yuen and senior Clara Young. Sophomore Cherise Otter participated as an individual.
Unlike its strong finish at last week’s tournament with a team total of 854, Missouri struggled. At the end of 36 holes of continuous play, the Tigers had a team total of 899. They walked away with a last-place finish against 14 other teams, including Kent State, whom they competed against in the Jim West Challenge. Kent State finished fourth at the Jim West Challenge and second at the Mercedes Championship.
Otter tied for 74th as an individual, carding 77 in the first round, 79 in the second round and 74 in the third and final round, finishing with a total of 230. Hendrickson also tied for 74th, carding 80 in the first round and 75 in both the second and third rounds, ending with a total of 230.
Yuen finished in 34th place with a total of 220. She carded 74 in round one, 73 in round two and 73 on Tuesday in the final round.
Missouri will compete again Oct. 2 to 4 in the Johnie Imes Invitational. The Tigers will host the tournament at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia.
