1,436 – The number of international students at MU. They come from a total of 104 countries. Last year, MU sent 526 students abroad to 32 countries, but study abroad was, of course, hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Study abroad has picked back up, but the numbers for 2021 will not be released until spring of this year.
413 – The number of COVID-19 cases among students from Aug. 22, 2021 to Dec. 8. Three students were hospitalized in this period.
338 – The number of students admitted to begin coursework at MU’s School of Law last semester. Of those admitted, 138 are now enrolled. The median LSAT (law school admissions test) of the entering class is 159 out of 180 and the median GPA is a 3.68. Fifty-one% of the entering class are women, 17% are minorities and 67% are Missouri residents. Students in the incoming class come from 58 different undergraduate schools.
112 – The class size of the School of Medicine graduating in 2022. Their average MCAT (medical school admissions test) was 508 out of 528 and their average GPA was 3.77. The class comprises 53% female and 47% male students. 85% of the graduating future doctors are Missouri residents, and more Missouri physicians receive their medical degrees from MU than any other medical school.
27 – The average ACT score among freshmen last semester. This is one of the highest averages recorded at MU and is nearly seven points higher than the national average among all test takers during the 2020-2021 reporting year.
4 – The number of MU Alerts sent during the fall semester. Students expressed concerns with finding out about shootings near downtown Columbia and right outside Mizzou at the Rise from social media apps like Yik Yak instead of from the official University of Missouri emergency alert system.
Prior to the Oct. 10 shooting outside The Rise, the only MU Alerts sent out included a test of the system and two about a missing woman. After pushback from students regarding the lack of notice for crimes committed close to campus, the university sent out one more alert this semester on Nov. 14 to notify students of a deadly shooting at Vibez lounge. This was the only crime-related alert sent last semester, even though there were at least 11 reports of shots fired on campus (1) and immediately downtown or near off-campus student housing (10). This does not mean shots were really fired; it just means whoever called 911 said they saw a gun being fired and dispatch logged it as shots fired.
3.2% – The percentage by which undergraduate enrollment dropped as a whole in the U.S. last fall. MU, however, saw an increase in the number of undergraduate students enrolled this fall from last year. Undergraduate enrollment increased by more than 1% this year, with transfer student enrollment increasing 1.27% this year.
