Basketball prospect Jordan Butler committed to MU basketball Oct. 5. The 7 foot, 195 lbs center comes out of Christ Church Episcopal in Greenville, South Carolina.
Butler only visited two schools, the University of Missouri and the University of South Carolina, but received offers from several other Southeastern Conference programs like Alabama, Auburn and Georgia. He also received an offer from Florida State, where his brother, John Butler, played.
With the addition of Butler, the 2023 recruiting class ranks 13th in the nation according to 24/7 Sports — the highest rank MU basketball has had since 2017, when Michael and Jontay Porter both signed.
Butler is the third commitment in the 2023 class, joining fellow four-stars Trent Pierce and Anthony Robinson. His height makes him the second tallest player on the 2023 roster, behind fellow big man Mabor Majak. Depth at the center position is something the 2023 squad needed, with Majak the only one listed on the roster.
Butler brings a unique skillset to the Tigers; his elite awareness and footwork makes him a lethal force inside. His skinny frame may seem like a disadvantage, but his quickness and finesse in the paint compensates for his lack in size. His height and wingspan allow him to be an elite shot-blocker, averaging 3.8 blocks per game last season.
Butler is one of the more promising prospects the Tigers have landed in recent years, and he joins an already strong recruiting class as men’s Head Coach Dennis Gates ushers in a new age of Tiger hoops.
