The Mizzou Market Hitt Street location closed on March 24 to accommodate an ongoing Student Health Center transition into Pershing Hall. The Mizzou Market – Central location in the student center reopened on March 27.
On March 27, Mizzou Market – Central reopened in the MU Student Center, following the permanent closure of Mizzou Market – Hitt Street on March 24. The move will accommodate the expansion of Student Health & Well-being into Pershing Hall, where the Hitt Street location was previously located.
MU Campus Dining Services announced these changes to students in a March 15 email.
Previously, the MU Student Center had a Mizzou Market location within the west end of the building, but the space has been vacant since its closure.
Sophomore Grace Wacker, who worked at both the Hitt Street and Southwest Mizzou Market locations, anticipated that the smaller size of the new Central location may have an impact on the products that the location is able to sell.
“I am definitely interested to see how this is all going to play out,” Wacker said. “This has been in the workings for a while now.”
Freshman Keyala Wallock previously worked at the Hitt Street location and will now transition to the Central location in the Student Center. 5rf
“I’m a little sad because I have memories of being at the market and it was my first job here, so I really am familiar with that building,” Wallock said.
Mizzou Market offers convenience items like food, household items and toiletries that students can purchase using their dining plans. The Hitt Street location also had a Subway available to students, which will not be in the Central location.
“Along with snacks and stuff, the market sells products such as shampoo, toothpaste [and] toothbrushes, just normal convenience store things that are important for students,” Wacker said.
Students can still purchase convenience items at Mizzou Market – Southwest, which will not be impacted by the transition.
