Melanie Walker and Fleur Van Beek finish in the top 20 as Missouri women’s golf takes the No. 6 spot at The Southern.
Missouri women’s golf finished No. 6 at The Southern in Savannah, Georgia. The Tigers finished the two-day, three-round tournament with only sophomore Melanie Walker placing in the top five. Georgia Southern took first place, with Western Kentucky and Coastal Carolina finishing second and third, respectively.
Walker (75-74-73) led the way for the Tigers, shooting six-over-par. Walker’s 222 over the three rounds earned her a tie for No. 5 individually. Walker’s strong final two rounds saw her finish just three strokes behind the co-champions, freshman Louise Reau from Georgia Southern and graduate student Hannah Karg from Coastal Carolina. Freshman Fleur van Beek (77-72-75) had three birdies in round two to help put Missouri in a strong position heading into the final round. Van Beek tied for the No. 17 place at eight-over-par. Despite her finish in No. 17, Van Beek was only one stroke away from being tied for a top-10 overall finish.
Rounding out the Tigers’ starting five were junior Ffion Tynan (83-71-74), sophomore Jade Zamora (81-78-76), and sophomore Addie Dobson (80-81-82). Tynan finished with 228 strokes tied for No. 29 at 12-over-par. Zamora tied for No. 41 with a total of 235 strokes at 19-over-par and Dobson finished tied for the No. 57 spot, shooting 243 over the three rounds for a 27-over-par.
The Tigers are done for the winter but will return in a few months on Feb. 5-6 at The Beach Invitational in Long Beach, California.
