Missouri swimming and diving put up a tough fight against SEC contender Alabama.
With multiple top three and first-place finishes and dominant diving performances, Missouri swimming and diving proved its competitiveness in a 10 and 43 point deficit loss against the University of Alabama.
For the first time in seven years, Missouri swimming and diving went head-to-head against the University of Alabama and showed promise in its results. The men’s side lost with a 659.4 to 669-point deficit, while the women’s side had a 657.8 to 700.6 loss.
The men’s Missouri diving team was very commanding on both sides and in both events. Sophomore Collier Dyer swept the cards with first-place finishes in both the one-meter and three-meter dive with a 320.4 in the three-meter and 337.8 point score in the one-meter. The women’s side was just as successful, as Kamryn Wong finished No. 2 in both events and Kayla Wilson finished No. 1 in the three-meter dive and No. 3 in the one-meter dive.
In the 200-yard butterfly, both sides put their best foot forward and finished with multiple wins. A No. 1 finish from Taylor Williams and Jan Zubik, a No. 3 finish by Freshman Emily Roden and a No. 4 finish from Mikolaj Malec. Williams also finished No. 1 in the 100-yard butterfly and Zubik finished No. 3 on his side.
Grant Bochenski led the 100-yard backstroke with a No. 1 finish, and No. 2 in the 100-yard freestyle with his teammate Frederik Rindshøj finishing at No. 3 right behind him. Both these players were also a part of a No. 2 finish in the men’s 400-yard freestyle relay. Similarly, the men’s relay team managed to grab another No. 2 finish in the 200-yard medley relay, while the women’s relay secured No. 3 in both relay events.
The Missouri swimming and diving team also secured two No. 2 finishes in the 200-yard individual medley including freshman Peyton Drexler and Will Goodwin, with other notable swimmers freshman John Watson finishing No. 3 and freshman Piper McNeil finishing No. 4.
Even with the loss to SEC contender Alabama, there is a lot for the Missouri swimming and diving team to look forward to. Next week, Missouri returns home with a tri-meet against Indiana and Auburn.
