MU students receive credit for up to two rides from downtown to their residence per month.
The Missouri Students Association’s executive branch announced its STRIPES ride safe partnership with Uber via email on Nov. 15.
Students have a $10 credit per month, which they can use on up to two rides from downtown to their residence. This credit can only be used between 9 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Students cannot share credits and unused credits do not carry over to the next month.
Uber sent emails to students’ UM System email addresses with a QR code and link to activate their business account on the Uber app. Students who already have an Uber account can switch from their personal account to their MU-sponsored business account when using the STRIPES credit.
The student activity fee, included in all undergraduate and graduate students’ tuition, pays for this service.

This is sad news for Mizzou student and the Columbia MO community – and a great revenue boost for Uber drivers locally. There are so many problems with the new model, starting with patron safety. Administration, Student Life, and MSA have given up on the program.
