Students joined together after fall break at MU’s first ever Tiger Tea Party to drink boba tea, eat cookies and relax with a winter-esque craft
During the Tiger Tea Party at the Gaines/Oldham Black Cultural Center, students were able to sit down with one another and enjoy cookies, boba tea and a mug decorating craft. The event, run by the Campus Activities Programming Board, served as a way to promote different cultural drinks and foods as well as give a space for students to relax and mingle.
Sophomore Diyora Rakhmonova grabs boba tea for herself on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023 at the Gaines/Oldham Black Cultural Center in Columbia, Mo. Although this was the Campus Activities Programming Board’s first Tiger Tea Party, the expected attendance of 200 was exceeded as 261 people attended the event.
Graduate student Amarnth Chakraborty writes on his mug. “[The event is] pretty nice,” Chakraborty said. “I love boba. The cookies are awesome, and I just get to do something fun.”
Freshmen Louisa Martin, left, and Sami Strayhorn decorate their mugs. “My friend told me about [Tiger Tea Party] last week and it seemed really interesting and fun,” Strayhorn said. “It’s been really fun and the boba is really good. [My favorite part has been] meeting new people and being with my friend and the boba.”
A variety of boba teas from Bubble Cup Tea Zone sit on a table. Guests were able to pick a boba tea of their choice with flavors ranging from brown sugar milk tea to strawberry popping boba tea and more.
Graduate student Angira Roy decorates her mug. “[Tiger Tea Party is] nice,” Roy said. “I love the Bubble Cup Tea Zone boba tea, so I’m here for that, and this [mug] is an addition. We just are having fun doing all these crafts and stuff.”
Left to right, freshmen Madison Preston, Emily Evans and Trinity Rodriguez work on decorating their mugs. Aside from enjoying drinking boba tea and eating cookies with friends, Tiger Tea Party provided stickers and sharpies for students to decorate mugs as a relaxing craft activity.
