Missouri swim relay teams swept events along with big performances from Grant Bochenski, Taylor Williams and Lina Bank to finish out Missouri’s road meet strong.
Missouri swim and dive was on the road for the last of its three away meets. The men’s team traveled to West Lafayette to take on Purdue on Jan. 13. The women’s team also faced Purdue as well as Illinois.
The men’s team landed a 150-150 draw against the Boilermakers, winning eight events and placing second in nine others. Three of the event wins belonged to junior Grant Bochenski who contributed to a relay sweep for the men’s team. He also picked up the 100-yard backstroke title. Sophomore Jan Zubik and freshman Matthew Stephenson were other strong swimmers, each winning two of their own events. Zubik also placed second behind his teammate graduate Will Goodwin in the 200-yard individual medley. For the men’s diving team, sophomore Collier Dyer placed second in the three-meter dive. Dyer earned a score of 398.90 which is the eighth-highest score in Missouri’s diving program history.
The women’s team faced a triple meet and ultimately defeated Illinois 195-105, but lost to Purdue 160-140. Just like the men’s team, the women’s relay team swept the events with Ashley Gill, Karolina Bank, Taylor Williams and Francesca Smith winning the 200-yard medley relay. Williams and Smith were also part of the team that won the 400-yard freestyle relay along with Zara Zallen and Sierra Smith. Bank carried home two additional wins in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke. Williams also got a third win in the 200-yard butterfly.
The Missouri Tigers have now finished a rocky three-meet away streak and will return home for the Tiger Qualifier on Feb. 2 and Feb. 3 in which they will include celebrations for the seniors during the met as this will be the last home meet of the season. The SEC Championship will be on Feb. 20.
