The Missouri divers each had impressive performances finishing with a gold medal each while Taylor Williams and Jan Zubik finished with gold on the swimming team.
Missouri swimming and diving started their new year on the road, facing the ranked Louisville. This was the team’s first meet against a ranked team in a one-on-one meet this season and the second time facing the Cardinals. In the SMU Classic on Oct. 6 Missouri finished No. 4 in swimming and No. 5 in diving to Louisville’s No. 2 and No. 1.
In this meet, for the Missouri swimming and diving team both the women and the men lost by similar margins: 203-96 on the women’s side and 205-98 on the men’s. Even with the loss, Missouri had shining moments during the meet.
Kamryn Wong and Collier Dyer both finished with a gold medal for the diving team. Wong flourished in the three-meter dive, finishing with a mark of 356.78 while also finishing No. 2 in the one-meter dive. Dyer had the opposite, smashing the one-meter with a 356.18 score and cruising to gold while finishing No. 3 in the three-meter.
On the swimming side, Jan Zubik secured the second gold for men in the 200-yard butterfly, squeezing out the win with a time of 1:43.79 and finishing the 100-yard butterfly No. 2 with a time of 47.91. Taylor Williams shined again for the women by winning the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.20, also finishing No. 2 in the 100-yard.
Other than those few gold, Missouri finished with 17 silver medals — ten on the women’s side and seven on the men’s. Some notable finishes include the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard free relay as both the women’s and men’s teams barely trailed behind. These scores weren’t able to counter the performance of Louisville’s Dalton Lowe and Denis Petrashov as they earned four and three gold medals respectively. The women’s side performed similarly with Christina Regenauer and Kim Herkle also finishing with four and three golds.
