Missouri track and field starts out postseason play with a bang, as eight Tigers claimed program top 10 marks and eight Tigers had top 10 individual finishes
The Missouri track and field team started out postseason play with a bang. Eight Tigers claimed program top 10 times and eight Tigers had top 10 individual finishes at the SEC Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Feb. 23 and 24.
This meet was held by the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Razorbacks came into this meet with four straight men’s SEC Championships and nine straight women’s titles. All of the other programs were hungry to take the crown from the Hogs, including the Tigers.
On Day One, seven of the eight Tigers earned program top 10 marks, and three Tigers had top 10 individual finishes. Both the men’s and women’s distance medley relay teams also finished in the top 10. The day was highlighted by graduate Mitch Weber placing fifth in the men’s weight throw, setting a new personal best and placing fourth on Missouri’s Indoor All-Time Top 10 List. Other standouts included senior Alicia Burnett placing seventh in the women’s 60 meters and junior Kelsey Schweizer placing seventh in the women’s 800 meters. Schweizer set her personal best time and placed fifth on Missouri’s Indoor All-Time Top 10 List.
On Day Two, there was another program top 10 time and five top 10 finishes. The day was spearheaded by freshman Sterling Scott, who placed third in the men’s triple jump, set his own personal best distance and placed third on Missouri’s Indoor All-Time Top 10 List. Schweizer had a good run on day two as well, placing fifth in the women’s 800 meters. Burnett had another nice day, placing seventh in the women’s 60 meters, and junior Claudina Diaz rounded out the Tigers, placing seventh in the women’s high jump.
The Tigers will now gear up for the last meet of the season, the NCAA Indoor Championships held in Boston, Massachusetts, on March 8 and 9.
