After a big upset last week, Missouri follows up with a non-conference win
After upsetting LSU the week prior, Missouri gymnastics headed to Denton, Texas, to face Texas Woman’s University. The Tigers came out with a dominant victory of 197.025-195.475.
With the road meet format, Missouri found themselves on bars first. Senior Kyra Burns led off for the Tigers, putting up a strong 9.825. She was followed by junior Alonna Kratzer’s first routine on bars for the Tigers and senior Amaya Marshall. Kratzer put up a 9.725 while Marshall fell, resulting in the lowest bars score of the night with a 9.275. Graduate Sienna Schreiber and senior Mara Titarsolej earned a 9.850 and 9.925, respectively, and closed out the rotation with a bang. TWU’s vault rotation was less than ideal with scores in the 9.700s or below. Missouri was in the lead 49.100-48.550 going into the second rotation.
Vault is historically one of Missouri’s strongest events this season. This rotation felt quite the opposite. Schreiber opened with a 9.775 followed by junior Grace Anne Davis’ 9.650 due to a large hop back on her landing. A lineup change on vault resulted in sophomore Jalene Jachna putting up another 9.775. The closers, junior Amari Celestine and freshman Hannah Horton, both put up 9.875s. Junior Jocelyn Moore’s shaky landing finished the rotation with another 9.775, her lowest vault score of this season. The Pioneers improved off their previous rotation, scoring three 9.800s and above on bars. It was not enough to get ahead as Missouri still led 98.175-97.225.
In the third rotation, floor was business as usual for the Tigers. Schreiber and freshman Rayna Light put up a 9.925 and 9.800, respectively, and set the tone for the rotation. With the exception of Celestine’s shaky 9.775 routine, the Tigers put up three more 9.900s, leading to a 49.500 team score. Texas Woman’s on the beam put up five 9.775s or below and senior Madeline Gose put up the only 9.825 score for TWU. By the end of the rotation, Missouri was still in the lead 147.675-146.100.
After a low beam score the week prior, the Tigers looked to bounce back in the last rotation. They did just that with Titarsolej and Light each putting up 9.775s. Schreiber bounced back significantly from her fall against LSU, earning a 9.975 and a 10.000 from one judge. Davis earned a career high 9.925, helping the Tigers earn a 49.350 team score. On floor, the Pioneers earned their highest team score of the night at 49.375 including two 9.950 individual scores. Missouri still won by a landslide with a final score of 197.025-195.475.
