Missouri takes home several honors during the 2023-24 SEC women’s basketball awards announcement
Missouri’s regular season concluded on a high as senior guard Mama Dembele and freshman guard Grace Slaughter took home SEC honors, announced on Tuesday, March 5.
In her first season, Slaughter was one of eight members named to the All-Freshman Team. Slaughter started in all but one game during the regular season, playing 970 total minutes.
The freshman guard averaged 11.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. Slaughter had impressive shooting splits as well, with a 47.7% field goal percentage, while also shooting 37% on three-pointers and 80.6% from the free-throw line.
Slaughter is the tenth player in Missouri program history voted onto the SEC All-Freshman list with previous winners including teammates Dembele, Ashton Judd and Hayley Frank.
Dembele was one of five members named to the All-Defensive team. The senior finished second in the SEC in steals per game with 3.3. Dembele is the only player in Missouri women’s basketball history to be named to the SEC All-Defensive Team.
In addition to her defensive prowess, Dembele led the SEC with an average of 6.5 assists. The Spaniard senior ranks No. 4 all-time in program history with 441 total assists.
Dembele was also voted as the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The conference recognized her commitment to her studies, with a 3.96 GPA while pursuing a degree in health science.
One notable player missing from the honors is Hayley Frank. In her final season, Frank averaged 16.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists. These numbers are all higher than her totals last season, which earned Frank SEC All-Second Team Honors.
Frank currently ranks as the No. 4 leading scorer in program history with 2,010 points. The graduate forward cracked the 2,000 point mark in the final regular season game against Mississippi State.
