Missouri track and field show out across the country with record setting times
At the end of spring break and over the Easter weekend, Missouri track and field was hard at work across the country at the Florida Relays and Stanford Invitational on March 29-30.
At the Florida Relays, the Tigers showed out with two event wins. One of the Tigers’ standouts of the meet was sophomore Isabella Sokolova, who won the women’s long jump event with a personal best distance of 6.21 meters. This distance placed No. 7 on Mizzou’s Outdoor All-Time Top 10 List. The other event winner for the Tigers was graduate student Reilly Revord, who won the women’s 1,500 meters with a time of 4:25.97.
Other top-five finishers include graduate student Skylar Ciccolini, who placed No. 4 in the women’s javelin with a distance of 52.43 meters. Junior Angus Beer had another impressive outing, finishing No. 5 in the men’s 1,500 meters with a time of 3:48.83. Sophomore Austin Popplewell placed No. 5 in the men’s 5,000 meters, setting a personal record with a time of 14:18.41. The Tigers also had two top-five finishers in the steeplechase event; sophomore Kaia Downs placed No. 4 in the women’s event and junior Royce Fisher placed No. 2 in the men’s event.
For the Stanford Invitational, the Tigers had four top-10 finishes and multiple program top-10 times. Junior Kelsey Schweizer placed No. 2 in the women’s 1,500 meters with a personal best time of 4:25.88. Junior Anneken Viljoen placed behind Schweizer in the women’s 1,500 meters at No. 3 with a time of 4:26.46.
Other athletes who impressed in California include graduate student Jenna Schwartz, who placed No. 8 in the women’s 10,000 meters with a personal best time of 33:56.58. This time ranks Schwartz No. 6 on Mizzou’s Outdoor All-Time Top 10 List for the event. Graduate student Mikayla Reed placed No. 17 in the women’s 10,000 meters with a personal best time of 34:43.59, putting her at No. 10 on Mizzou’s Outdoor All-Time Top 10 List for the event.
The Tigers’ next meet will be another double-header in California at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Beach Invitational on April 12-13.
