Mackenzie Malham and Ava Tankersley each scores two as the Razorbacks defeat the Tigers
The No. 3 Arkansas Razorbacks walked away with an impressive 8-2 win over Missouri soccer. The Razorbacks have outscored their opponents 35-3 at home. Kate Phillips made her second start as goalkeeper, following a performance with seven saves in the previous match against Texas A&M.
Arkansas opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a goal from forward Anaiyah Robinson. They continued to apply offensive pressure with Phillips making a diving save in the ninth minute to keep the score at 1-0. Around minute 19, midfielder Makenzie Malham scored off a free kick, followed by a goal from forward Kate Doyle two minutes later.
The Tigers had a few opportunities to score, including an unsuccessful corner kick. Missouri also struggled getting attackers into the goal area to create scoring chances. Meanwhile, Arkansas maintained an advantage of 12 shots on the goal in the first half, while the Tigers managed only two.
With 15 minutes to play, forward Ava Tankersley scored for the Razorbacks and forward Kiley Dulaney joined her 10 minutes later. Defensive midfielder Jailyn Brownlee tacked on one more goal at the end of the period to bring the halftime score to 6-0.
In the second half, Bella Hollenbach replaced Phillips in goal, who finished with two saves. The Tigers couldn’t convert on a scoring chance with the crossbar denying them. The Tigers would eventually break the scoring drought, thanks to midfielder Leah Selm’s free kick from outside of the box in the 65th minute, but Arkansas would respond with Tankersley netting her second goal of the match shortly after.
The Razorbacks added one more, with Malham scoring with a corner kick from midfielder Lily Boydstun in the 78th minute. Missouri answered back with a goal from Kylee Simmons immediately after. Hollenbach exited the game towards the end with two saves and Kassidy Roshong entered, making two saves before the final whistle blew.
The Tigers’ next game is on the road on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. against Alabama.
