
The Tigers breeze by LSU to open up SEC play on the back of Mychael Vernon
Missouri Volleyball swept the LSU Tigers 3-0 in their first conference match of the season. The Tigers won 25-22, 25-12, 25-19 en route to their sixth consecutive win.
The first set was close as neither team led by more than five, but Missouri held their advantage to take the set 25-22. Their first set was highlighted by six kills from right-side Jordan Iliff contributing to 16 total kills off of 15 assists as a team.
Missouri’s largest margin of victory came in the second set with a 13-point win. They led 14-10 at the halfway mark before an 11-2 run to close out the set.
This was Missouri’s cleanest set of the match with three errors and their highest kill percentage of the night at .619. Outside hitter Mychael Vernon led the way with four kills in the set, including the final two as Missouri snagged the 25-12 win.
The third set was another neck-and-neck affair until Missouri pulled away late. The score was tied at 11-11 until Vernon spiked home six kills to help the visiting Tigers secure the sweep.
Vernon finished with 17 kills, her second-highest total of the season and the most since the season opener. Missouri had their most kills of the night with 18 in the third set along with a .452 hitting percentage.
After losing last year’s contest against LSU, Missouri came back with a vengeance to get the win in Baton Rouge. Both teams came into this match with an 8-3 record, but Missouri proved themselves ahead of their opponents.
Missouri is on the road again facing off against Texas A&M at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29 in College Station, Texas.
