Columbia Art League hosted its ‘Myths & Monsters’ reception at Betty and Art Robins Gallery on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024
On Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, Columbia Art League hosted an art reception focused on celebrating “Myths & Monsters” at Betty and Art Robins Gallery. CAL provided small snacking foods like cheese and crackers — red and white wines were also provided by The Blufftop at Rocheport. Many pieces of art by local artists were on display and awards were given out by Kelsey Hammond, Executive Director of CAL

Local artist Adrian Paladi looks at a piece of art. Paladi had his own piece on display titled “Shuryō Tatsu,” a three paneled painting that together depict a Japanese dragon.
Kelsey Hammond announces the goals and winners for artwork entered. “Part of our mission is to support artists wherever they are in their journey,” Hammond said.
A doll inspired by the folktale, Bloody Mary, sits on a stand in the Betty and Art Robins Gallery. The mixed media piece “Bloody Mary” by Inessa Morelock won the first overall prize in the “Myths & Monsters” competition. Morelock received a cash prize for her placement.
Ira Papick’s wood and glass accent mirror, “Beware of a Cornered Dog,” is displayed at the Betty and Art Robins Gallery. Papick is a retired MU math professor and has been a member of CAL for roughly 13 years. Papick focuses primarily on wood based pieces of art.

Shannon Soldner’s oil painting titled “A Ritual Goodbye” hangs on a wall in Betty and Art Robins Gallery. The painting was one of the largest at the exhibition.
