Ochsenbein and Bank notch new personal best times in the Tigers loss
Missouri swimming and diving was back in action at the Mizzou Aquatic Center to host the Texas A&M Aggies. Both the men’s and women’s teams fell to the Aggies with identical scores, losing 168-to-132. The men now sit at 0-2 on the season, while the women are 1-2.
But some members of the team said winning isn’t the primary focus for Missouri right now.
Sophomore Alex Ochsenbein performed well for the Tigers. A come-from-behind victory in the 200-yard breaststroke finishing with a time of 1:57.06 seconds allowed him to steal first place in the event by just 0.15 seconds. This was the first win of his young Missouri career, as well as a new personal record as he will look to build upon this as the season progresses.
“Obviously we want to succeed at the dual meets, but our end goal is conference and NCAA’s,” Ochsenbein said.
Junior Lina Bank brought home a first-place finish in the women’s 200-yard breaststroke, touching the final wall with a time of 2:12.17 seconds for a new personal best. Bank also grabbed a first-place finish in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke. This is her third consecutive dual meet with a first-place finish in the events as she continues her dominance.
Abbey Taute strung together a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke for the third meet in a row. She finished with a time of 1:56.40 seconds.
Grant Bochenski was able to put together another multi-win meet on the day. Bochenski took first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 43.68 seconds. A 46.46-second finish in the 100-yard backstroke was also enough for first place.
The Tigers home stand is now over, as they won’t return back to the Mizzou Aquatic Center until hosting Louisville on Jan. 3. For now, Missouri will travel to Athens from Nov. 20-22 for the Georgia Invitational.
