CAPB is hosting the National Pickle Day Celebration on Nov. 14 which will have pickle-themed food, activities and prizes
The University of Missouri Campus Activities Programming Board will host a celebration for National Pickle Day in the Student Center on Nov. 14. The event will run from 3 to 5 p.m. and feature a pickle-themed photo booth, prizes and food.
Food at the event will include about 70 frozen pickle juice popsicles and 50 pounds of fried pickles, according to CAPB. Sophia Axelbaum, the daytime programming chair for CAPB, is involved in the planning of the event.
“Anything for pickle day,” Axelbaum said.
The event will be styled like the “Say Cheese!” event that took place last year in the Student Center and gave students the opportunity to try different cheeses and take pictures at a cheese-themed photo booth. She said she believed the food-based event’s success had a simple rationale—it was relatable.
“We just really want to try new things and things that are commonly loved amongst people,” Axelbaum said.
Axelbaum said she has seen high interest in the event and expects over 200 attendees, more than was originally expected by the planning team.
She said she wants the event to be inclusive for all students, even those who don’t like pickles.
“I would say you can still come on in and go to the photo booth,” Axelbaum said. “We’re going to have a photo guy there, and we have the backdrop with the props. We also have our handouts for people. Obviously, you don’t eat those.”
Students who can’t make it to the National Pickle Day celebration and would still like free refreshments can attend the Tiger Tea Party event on Nov. 19, also hosted by CAPB.
