Several members of the team have made an impact after a 2-2 opening stretch
The Missouri women’s basketball team is off to a rough start to the season, at 2-2 and featuring offensive struggles. However, several players have contributed on both the offensive and defensive end.
Abbey Schreacke setting the score
Abbey Schreacke has helped set the tone with major contributions off the bench.
This is Schreake’s second season playing for the Tigers, moving back to the off-guard position after operating in the point guard position as a freshman.
Schreacke broke double digit points in the Tigers’ second home game against Norfolk State. With three consecutive three-pointers, Schreake led all Tigers in scoring with 15 points in 23 minutes off the bench.
In the Tigers’ win against Tulane, she scored eight points and two rebounds with another pair of three-pointers.
Schreacke has proven that she’s a key player this season, and that she can be counted on to rack up points from beyond-the-arc.
Randle’s aggression on the court
Southern Illinois transfer Laniah Randle already plays an avid role in the Tigers’ strong defense.
She was one of Missouri’s top scorers during its matchup against Vermont, finishing with 11 points as a starter in her first game as a Tiger.
Randle registered a double-double during the home opener against Southern University. She finished with 10 rebounds and scored 12 points as one of three Missouri players in double digits.
She fell short of a second consecutive double-double against Norfolk State with 10 rebounds and nine points.
Randle got back into double digits with 12 points while collecting four rebounds in the win.
Despite her foul trouble, her aggression on the court helped bring Missouri back in the fourth quarter. Her spirit on the court proves to be a key player in setting the tone for the Tigers’ season this year.
“I feel like I just get hyped up,” Randle said. “I just wanted to come out and just start the game off being aggressive.”
Slaughter balances both defense and offense on the court
Grace Slaughter has set the scene for herself this season, leading the team in minutes played and points scored through four games.
In the season opener against Vermont, Slaughter was the Tigers’ top scorer with 16 points in 38 minutes, sitting for only two minutes.
She continued to score with 15 points in the Tigers home opener against Southern University.
After only scoring five against Norfolk State, Slaughter made a quick comeback during Missouri’s game against Tulane. She finished with a career high of 22 points, once again as the leading scorer for the Tigers.
“She is just so disciplined with her daily schedule,” Head Coach Robin Pingeton said. “She’s right here everyday … she is just a very disciplined young lady with a tremendous work ethic.”
Slaughter and the rest of the Tigers played on the road against Western Illinois at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15.
