Recap of Missouri track and field’s performance at the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational
Missouri track and field looked to properly honor Missouri program legend Dr. Rick McGuire, the track and field head coach from 1983 to 2010 in this year’s invitational named after him. The Tigers honored well, posting 14 top-three finishes.
On day one of two, senior Alicia Burnett and the men’s distance medley team stole the show. Burnett placed first in the women’s 200-meter with a personal best and new school record of 23.35 seconds.
Missouri sophomore Brenden Heitzig competes in the men’s 3000-meter run at the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, in Columbia, Mo. Heitzig set a personal record of 8:16.30.
The men’s medley team made up of Lasse Funck, Kaden Hamner, Jack Forer and Brenden Heitzig also impressed. The team finished second in the men’s distance medley with a time of 9:49.93.
On the second day, 12 athletes placed in the top-three podium spots. The day was highlighted by performances from first-year Jonathan Seremes who set a new personal record and finished first in the men’s triple jump with a distance of 16.94 meters.
This distance broke a program record that had been standing since 1978. The Tigers’ momentum continued as Sterling Scott finished right behind Seremes in third with a distance of 16.08 meters.

Seremes wasn’t the only Tiger making history, as Rahel Broemmel had another outstanding outing, finishing second in the women’s 3,000-meter run with a personal record time of 9:20.25. This put her at No. 6 all-time for the program.
Another huge performance from a Tiger was put on by senior Skylar Coffey. Coffey finished second in the men’s shot put with a personal record distance of 18.74 meters which moved him up to fifth best in program history.
On top of this was a plethora of first-place finishes tipped off by senior Euphenie Andre in the women’s triple jump. Andre recorded a personal best distance of 13.49 meters to win the event.
Missouri freshman Marlena Tresnjo competes in the women’s high jump at the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, in Columbia, Mo. Tresnjo finished fourth in the event clearing 1.75 meters on her second attempt.
This was followed by senior Kristi Perez-Snyman with a personal and program record distance of 1.86 meters to win the women’s high jump which puts her at sixth nationally. Senior Claudina Diaz finished right behind her in second with a distance of 1.80 meters.
These incredible performances were all capped off by Burnett, placing first in the women’s 60m with a time of 7.31 seconds.
The Tigers have their final meet with the Missouri Invitational at the Hearnes Center on Friday, Feb. 7.
