Mizzou’s track and field team takes a commanding victory at the Missouri Invitational
Missouri track and field aimed to finish this season’s home meets with a good performance at the Missouri Invitational. The Tigers did this and more, putting up 20 top-four finishes in a strong showing for the black and gold.
The biggest standout of the meet was junior Drew Rogers, who ran a personal best time of 4:02.30 in the men’s mile. This time not only earned him the No. 1 spot for the event but also put him at No. 6 for the event in program history. Rogers was closely followed by sophomore teammate Finn Russell, who finished third with a personal best time of 4:04.82. Senior Trevor Peimann finished fourth with a time of 4:07.54.
Rogers wasn’t the only first-place finish for the Tigers, as five others topped the standings, including Brianna Lee in the women’s mile. Lee finished first with a time of 4:55.06, followed closely by freshman Kobi Walker as the runner-up with a time of 4:57.54.
At the field team, four more Tigers placed at the No. 1 spot. Redshirt junior Sam Innes was one of these athletes, recording a distance of 21.78 meters in the men’s weight throw to place at No.1. He was followed by fellow Tigers junior Garik Pozecki with a distance of 19.58 meters in second place and redshirt sophomore Clayton Kamp with a distance of 17.91 meters in fourth place.
The women’s weight throw saw stellar performances by the Tigers as well, with the top three spots held by Missouri. Junior Ames Burton won the event with a personal best distance of 18.46 meters. Runner-up was a fellow Tiger, sophomore Reagan Kimrey in a personal best distance of 18.35 meters. The top three was rounded out by sophomore Delilah Pippen in third place with a personal best time of 16.51 meters.
Kimrey carried her success over from one event to the next, placing first in the women’s shot put with a personal best distance of 13.81 meters. Sophomore Charnay Davis placed third with a distance of 12.99 meters.
The men’s shot put saw even more success, the Tigers swept the top four placement spots. Senior Skylar Coffey placed first in the event with a distance of 18.59 meters, followed by freshman Cade Decker in second place with a distance of 15.49 meters. Kamp continued his high-placement streak with a third-place finish thanks to his 15.45-meter throw, followed by sophomore Sam Albert with a distance of 15.38 meters.
The day was finished off by the track team as senior McKenna Revord placed fourth in the women’s 3,000 meters with a time of 10:01.34. Junior Robert Hines placed second in the men’s 60-meter with a time of 6.76 seconds and freshman Emanuele Bellanova placed third in the men’s 60-meter hurdles with a personal best of 8.41 seconds.
The Tigers next meet was the Tyson Invitational on Friday, Feb. 14th through Feb. 15th in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
