President Choi indicated the cancellation of certain federal projects and a decrease in the university’s expenditures for the upcoming fiscal years in an email to faculty and staff
The University of Missouri will reduce spending and cancel specific federal projects in the 2025 and 2026 fiscal years in response to federal funding cuts from the Trump administration.
Mun Choi, chancellor of the University of Missouri and president of the University of Missouri System, announced these changes in a Feb. 24 email to MU staff and faculty. He specified efforts to reduce expenses for the 2025 fiscal year within the offices of the president, chancellor, vice provosts and deans. The MU News Bureau was not able to provide the size of the budget cuts or whether these cuts will impact student scholarships or MizzouForward investments.
Choi said he expected federal program cuts to continue into the 2026 fiscal year. However, he intends to minimize the impacts of the budget cuts on teaching, research and engagement, the email said.
“I’m also encouraged in knowing that we are in a much better position to weather the financial challenges given our strong footing, with positive enrollments, growing state support and profitable entrepreneurial programs,” Choi said.
