On Friday evening and day two of the True/False Film Fest, Eastside Tavern hosted a ‘Happy Hour’ from 6-8 p.m. The event had free, live music performances from various artists. The night started with K Kudda Muzic, Jeremiah Long and Bobby Beary J performing original beats that combined genres of music like soul, R&B and hip-hop.
“We’re all individual musicians and artists in our own regard, we do our own thing so when we come together it’s always a special sound,” K Kudda Muzic said.
St. Louis-based musician Noel Spiva joined the trio halfway through their performance to showcase one of her upcoming singles “See That Light,” which she hopes to release sometime in the spring. Despite originally facing technical difficulties, Spiva persevered and ended the first half of the show on a positive note.
“My mic went out tonight but I’m still here and I had the chance to just still be up there and groove with everybody and it was amazing how we ended it,” Spiva said. “As an artist, I will be honest with you, complications, whether it is an instrument or a sound, you still have to keep going no matter what.”
After a short break, University of Missouri graduate student Zeph France and DJ KvreeM took the stage. France played songs from across his discography, including from his new album “Will Rap 4 Food” that listeners can expect soon. The duo, who have multiple shows together throughout the True/False Film Fest, had an interactive performance, encouraging crowd participation. France was extremely grateful for the positive reaction he received.
“My biggest goal, aside from people waving their hands, and people seeing the words, is that they actually listen to what I’m saying,” France said. “I try to make music that I think people’s souls need.”
The True/False Film Fest provided a venue for the artists to expose their music to new listeners. By the time the event ended, Eastside Tavern was nearly full. France credits the festival for providing him an opportunity to grow and expand his platform.
“Last year I performed at True/False and that was an amazing time,” France said. “It’s one of these things where I didn’t expect it to be the blessing that it was. Like this is a film festival and I’m a rapper. I didn’t come into this, like, ‘oh man, this is gonna be the great experience that it’s been’ since I’ve been here.”
