Missouri sophomore cross country runner Elissa Barnard leads a group of runners during the women’s DI 6k race at the Gans Creek Classic on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024 at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Mo. Barnard finished in 209th place with a time of 22:39.2.
Missouri track and field brought home 17 individual event titles at the Cougar Classic in Edwardsville, Illinois. Alicia Burnett claimed two of the event titles while setting school record times in the process.
Burnett took home first place for the Missouri Tigers in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.51, enough for a personal best and the fourth-fastest time in school history. Her record-setting day continued as she took home another first place title in the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 23.18, the second-fastest time in school history.
Burnett was not the only tiger who took home multiple titles. Ames Burton brought home two first-place titles in the women’s discus with a throw of 50.33 meters and 13.68 meters in the shot put.
In the pole vault event, the Tigers took home first place in both the men’s and women’s division with two personal-best performances. Charlie Garino placed first for the men and vaulted 4.95 meters, earning a new personal best and the 10th best result in school history. Anna Vedral placed first in the women’s division with 3.70 meters, setting a new personal best and earning the ninth best result in school history.
In the men’s 1500-meter race, the Tigers had the seven fastest times and those who finished in the top four all set personal bests. Finn Russel
l placed first running a 3:47.16, and Ryan Eddington placed second, running a 3:47.53. Following those two was Jack Forer, who placed third with a time of 3:48.14 and Colby Revord in fourth, running a 3:48.49.
Looking into the coming weeks as the SEC Championship grows closer, the Tigers will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia for the Virginia Challenge on April 18 and 19.
