Missouri Tigers track and field made school history at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Virginia. Both senior Alicia Burnett and junior Drew Rogers set school records and reached personal bests on their way to top five finishes.
Burnett ran an 11.23 in the women’s 100-meter dash, breaking a school record that dated back to 1987. Her time was quick enough to earn first place in the event, along with a new personal best time. Burnett’s success continued in the women’s 200-meter dash, as she placed fourth with a time of 23.84.
In the men’s 5000-meter race, Rogers also set a school record. He ran a personal best time of 13:41.63, which earned him fourth place and set a new school record that had been standing since 2013. Elijah Limo was among many other Tigers who set personal bests. In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Limo placed first with a time of 8:53.23. Finishing two spots behind him was Joshua Allison, who placed third with a time of 8:57.17.
The Tigers continued their success in the field events at the Virginia Challenge. Missouri took home first place in javelin in both the men’s and women’s divisions. Callan Saldutto threw for 72.52 meters along with Valentina Barrios for 52.99 meters. Val Galligan placed second as she threw for 50.15 meters, setting a personal record.
In the men’s discus event, three Tigers each placed in the top five. Tarique George in second with 54.18 meters, Skylar Coffey in fourth with 52.86 meters and T.J. Wiggins in fifth with 52.47 meters.
For the Tigers’ next meet, the team will travel to College Station, Texas for the Texas A&M Alumni Muster.
