Junior pitcher Kadden Drew throws a two-seam-fastball on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Taylor Stadium in Columbia, Mo. Drew would pitch two innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out two.
Missouri Tigers baseball was aiming for a victory against an in-state opponent to spark a late season turnaround after being swept by another conference opponent.
Missouri fell short of this goal, however, falling to the Missouri State Bears 11-0 in seven innings.
The Bears came out swinging, tallying seven runs over the second, third and fourth innings. The hot stretch was capped off by a two-run shot from Caden Bogenpohl that put Missouri State up 7-0.
While struggles at the mound have been regular this season for Missouri, it was a little unusual to see so much struggle at the plate. The Tigers could only conjure up three total hits on the night and zero runs. This resulted in the Bears running away with it without contention, unlike the two teams’ first meeting last week, which saw Missouri defeat Missouri State 10-9.
Before the game began, there was widespread excitement for the return of part-time pitcher, part-time quarterback, sophomore Sam Horn. In his return to the mound, Horn had a short but solid return, allowing one hit, no runs and striking out one in a single inning of action.
Junior Brock Daniels and redshirt freshman Tyler Macon also shined through, both going 1-for-1 at the plate. Junior Jackson Lovich, didn’t notch a hit but made his mark by drawing two walks and stealing a base.
Every other pitcher allowed at least two runs, with junior relief pitcher Brock Lucas allowing the least amount of hits, giving up two over two innings of work. He did, however, walk three batters and throw a wild pitch.
Next Matchup
The Tigers now sit at 13-27 after the loss, with their next matchup being a three-game series against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The series began on Thursday, April 24 at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
