It was a special weekend for No.15 Missouri tennis, as they closed out the 2025 regular season and celebrated Senior Day during their Sunday doubleheader at home. While their last SEC matchups didn’t go the Tigers’ way, senior Inah Canete fittingly stole the show.
In their matchup against No. 9 Tennessee on April 11, the Tigers fought a valiant effort, but couldn’t finish the job. Senior Mary Brumfield and sophomore Korina Roso put forth a strong effort on doubles court one, forcing a 4-5 score in set one against senior Elza Tomase and freshman Saray Yli-Piipari, but the game was ultimately cut short. The Tigers lost the remaining two doubles matches, falling down 0-2.
As singles action began, Canete took center stage. Matched up against No. 36-ranked junior Catherine Aulia, Canete earned a statement win for herself and the program, going 6-4, 6-3 on court two. Her teammates fed off of her energy, as both Artimedi and freshman Zoe Lazar held leads in their games that went unfinished. In the end, the Tigers fell 4-1, but the individual performances in the singles section gave cause for optimism.
Missouri’s Senior Day matchup against No. 38-ranked Kentucky was more of the same, as the Tigers struggled in the doubles portion. Just like against Tennessee, Canete put together a strong performance in her singles matchup, taking No. 81-ranked Kentucky sophomore Julia Zhu into extra sets before the game ended prematurely. Roso also stood out, holding a 7-6, 6-2 lead into extra sets against freshman Tess Bucher on court four, but the matchup went unfinished. Missouri lost to Kentucky with a final score of 4-0.
To wrap up, the Tigers easily took care of their games against Lindenwood. Graduate student Lailaa Bashir and Lazar opened the scoring with a 6-0 sweep on doubles court three. Missouri didn’t lose a single match for the rest of the outing, earning a 4-0 sweep of their own.
Missouri concludes the regular season with a 13-14 record, and stamps their most successful campaign of the decade. Now, the Tigers will be put to the test as they travel to Auburn, Alabama, to compete in the SEC tournament from April 16 to April 20.
