The Missouri Tigers looked to rejuvenate their disappointing season with a win over their archrival, the Kansas Jayhawks. They were just short of their goal, losing a nail-biter 6-5.
Kansas struck first with a three-run first inning, but the Tigers hit back, tying things up in the fourth thanks to a pair of homers from a pair of junior infielders. Junior infielder Brock Daniels got his fourth home run of the season before junior infielder Jackson Lovich hit a two-out shot to left center for his team-leading ninth home run.
The Tigers kept things going into the fifth inning, getting two more runs, the first of which came from an RBI double by freshman infielder Chris Patterson, who went 2-for-5 at the plate. Then, junior infielder Keegan Knutson drove in another run with an RBI single, and the Tigers took the 5-3 lead.
The slugging wasn’t the only thing going well for Missouri either, as the Tigers only one run from the second to the seventh inning. Relief pitchers PJ Green, Victor Christal, Brock Lucas and Kaden Jacobi combined to allow just two hits and one run through five total innings of work.
Unfortunately for Missouri, they couldn’t hold their lead, allowing a two-run eighth inning that resulted in a 6-5 lead for the Jayhawks that wouldn’t be relinquished. The Tigers lost despite great efforts, including a 2-for-3 performance at the plate from Daniels.
