University of Missouri swimming and diving fell short on Oct. 18, losing to Purdue 184-116 on the women’s side and 192-108 on the men’s. Despite the final team score, Missouri won nine of the 34 events, with eight individuals and one relay.
Karolina Bank won three of her four events to lead the Tigers in total wins. The senior’s most successful event was the 100-yard breaststroke, as she hit the wall with a final time of 1:02.14, 2.6 seconds faster than Purdue’s Meghan Sharma.
Bank also finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.39 and was a part of the first place 200-yard medley relay team. Sydney Bales, Grace Hanson and Katie Kuehn all swam alongside Bank in Missouri’s only relay victory of the match.
Jan Zubik also won multiple events for the Tigers, finishing first in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming a 46.65 second race, and the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:47.07.
The other male swimmers and divers with a win were Collier Dyer in 1 meter diving with a score of 364.58, Quinlan Gould in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 47.22 seconds and Matthew Judkins in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:45.75.
Judkins had his first collegiate career win, while Arizona State transfer Gould got his first medal as a Tiger.
Joining Judkins and Gould in their first Mizzou wins is freshman Libby Bakker, who caught her victory in the women’s 200-yard backstroke, with a time of 1:59.06.
Missouri will be back in the water Nov. 1 at the Mizzou Aquatic Center to host the Vanderbilt Commodores. Vanderbilt is 1-0 heading into the contest after a 160-101 win against North Florida Oct. 4.
