The Pre-National Invitational on the Gans Creek Course showcased impressive talent ahead of the postseason. Both Missouri’s men’s and women’s teams had strong performances, finishing second and third respectively.
The Tigers notched a third-place finish in the women’s 6k race, with a total of 216 points and an average time of 20.28. First-year Monica Wanjiku finished No. 9 with a time of 19.47.9 seconds, and junior Rahel Broemmel placed No. 43 in 20.31.4.
BYU first-year Jane Hedengren set a Gans Creek course record with a time of 18.42.3 seconds, snapping the previous course record of 19.06.9 seconds. The BYU women finished first with a commanding score of 25 points, with five runners finishing in the top 10.
Mizzou’s men were ranked No. 19 entering the meet, the highest of any team on the course today. The Tigers were led by senior Drew Rogers, who took 12th in the men’s 8k, running a 24.23.7 seconds. First-year Elijah Limo was close behind Rogers, finishing No. 14 with a time of 23.25.8 seconds.
The Tigers finished second in the overall team scoring column for the men’s 8k race with a score of 164 points, averaging a time of 23.49.72 seconds.
The Tigers will next be competing in the Southeastern Conference Championship in Knoxville, Tennessee Oct 31, with the men’s race starting at 9:08 a.m., and the women’s race following at 9:53 a.m.
