Missouri Tigers women’s cross country team finished fourth of 32 teams, and the men finished seventh of 30 at the Midwest Regional on Nov. 14. The Tigers exited with four All-Region selections and an individual bid to compete in the NCAA Cross Country Championship.
In the women’s 6K, freshman Monica Wanjiku led the way with a time of 20:10.1, finishing sixth.
Due to such a strong finish, Wanjiku earned an automatic bid to compete in the NCAA Championships. Wanjiku has been a bright spot for the Tigers cross country team, and has three years of eligibility left to grow.
Freshman Kobi Walker finished with a time of 21:01.6 in the same event and placed 24th.
The freshmen were the two Tigers on the women’s team to earn All-Midwest Region honors. The women’s team had six of their seven runners finish in the top 50 with their lowest finishing 65th out of 235 runners.
In the men’s 10K, the Tigers were led by senior Drew Rogers. He finished with a time of 30:48.6 earning him 18th place and a spot on the All-Region team.
Freshman Elijah Limo posted a time of 30:53.4 in the 10K, securing 21st place and a spot on the All-Region team.
The men’s team had three of their six runners finish in the top 50 and their lowest finish 113th out of 212 racers.
The Tigers will host the NCAA cross country national championships at Gans Creek on Nov. 22 starting at 9:20 a.m. Wanjiku and the women’s team will compete for Missouri.
