The University of Missouri’s Campus Activities Programming Board invited comedian Caleb Hearon to Jesse Auditorium on Dec. 4 to answer a sold-out crowd’s burning questions.
Hearon’s ability to connect with his fans on social media helps him engage with and appeal to the college generation, a big factor in the event’s popularity. While awaiting the event, senior Karsyn Helms shared her love for the comedian.
“I’ve been following him on social media for a while now,” Helms said. “I think he’s funny and amusing, and I like a lot of the stuff he stands for.”
While answering questions, Hearon sprinkled in serious topics while maintaining his humorous personality. For junior Brianne Tremper, Hearon embodies morals that many of his viewers can see in themselves.
“I also just like who he is as a person,” Tremper said. “Like, he’s incredibly kind and, like, very aware of what’s happening in the world. And I think that’s, like, a person that people should be looking to.”
Students gravitate toward Hearon for consistently keeping his platform diverse and his passion for broadening his audience. Much like the Q&A, Hearon’s podcasts are rarely predictable, which keeps his audience engaged. Mizzou senior Chance McKim appreciates the wide range of podcast guests that Hearon invites.
“He will talk to union workers and, like, people who are, like, experts in their fields, and then also comedians and writers and directors,” McKim said. “His mother has been on the podcast a few times.”
While this was a great opportunity for fans to connect with a beloved role model, it was also a chance for students to sit back and enjoy their night.
“I just wanted to come and hang out and enjoy it. It’s been, like, stressful time with like, I’m graduating in December, so a little stressed. So it’ll be nice to have, like, have a break from that for tonight.” Helms said.
