The Missouri Students Association has yet to hold its constitutional convention that was expected to happen this past semester, before MU’s winter recess.
The convention will happen between March and April of this semester, MSA Senate Speaker Evan Wood said.
The convention has been delayed three separate times due to lack of a venue and date confirmation. Originally, the convention was set to happen in April 2010.
The convention was delayed first to the end of August 2010, before the 2010-2011 academic year began, then delayed again to the fall semester. The convention was then set before MU’s winter recess, Wood said, but the convention did not take place.
“Moving the date of the convention was necessary,” Wood said.
Although a venue for the convention had been confirmed in December, Wood said the event could not have happened during the fall semester.
“Because the convention is a three-day event we would have needed to make room reservations over the summer to have the convention during the fall semester,” he said.
According to the convention agenda, MSA will present its organization and responsibilities to the other organizations present, new ideas in relation to the structure of MSA will be brainstormed and discussed. On the last day, they will vote and possibly instate new MSA structural ideas.
MSA event planning interns are working on confirming a date, but no confirmation has been made, Wood said.
