An MU student was robbed at gunpoint early Tuesday morning at the intersection of Rollins Street and East Campus Drive.
The victim reported seeing two suspects exit a small, white four-door vehicle resembling a Volkswagen at about 2 a.m., according to an MU Police Department news release. She said the two suspects put on dark-colored masks and robbed her with a silver handgun, taking two cell phones, a wallet and credit cards.
“The investigators talked to her this morning right after it happened to get the details of the suspects,” MUPD Capt. Scott Richardson said. “We’ll follow up to see if the credit cards are used anywhere, anything like that.”
Richardson said it’s too early to tell whether this robbery was connected to any other recent incidents.
“At this point, we’re still investigating,” Richardson said. “We’ll look back and try to see if it was linked to anything in the past.”
Richardson said the two suspects would most likely face charges of first-degree robbery. Getting the description of the two men and the vehicle out to the public is important to finding the suspects, he said.
“On average, we see anywhere from one to three robberies per year,” Richardson said.
According to the MUPD Campus Crime and Fire Safety Report, there were four total robberies reported to MUPD in 2009. Only three of the reported robberies occurred on MU grounds or streets adjacent to campus.
