The True/False Film Fest was a “Year of the Documentary” baby. Born in 2003 — a year known for catapulting nonfiction films onto the big screen — the documentary film festival began in just three venues: Ragtag Cinema, The Blue Note and the Missouri Theatre. A sold-out show at the 1,200-seat Missouri Theatre in the festival’s first year was a promising sign for its future. Today, True/False has expanded to nine venues and has become an early staple for Columbians and worldwide film connoisseurs alike.
MOVE is here to help you wade your way through the madness that is sure to ensue for True/False’s biggest year yet. Use our film previews to choose from the festival’s selection of dozens of feature length documentaries. If the list is overwhelming, let our editor’s picks guide you to the best the festival has to offer. Passes to the festival have already sold out, but individual tickets can be obtained for $8 at the box office throughout the weekend. If a film has sold out, you can still snag a seat using the Q. All you have to do is arrive at the film you would like to see one hour early to reserve your spot on the Q. You will be given a line number, and will be free to leave and return 15 minutes before showtime. At that point, all available tickets will be sold to Q users for $10. Using the Q is more likely to land you a seat at larger venues, like The Blue Note and the Missouri Theatre, but is an option everywhere.
