With spring finally gracing us with her fashionably late presence, you might find yourself itching for something cool and refreshing to beat back the heat.
But keep your screams in order, because these frozen treats are sure to put a spring in your step.
**Red Mango**
Red Mango is the perfect option for the health conscious, with their low-fat frozen yogurt, fortified with natural probiotics. This cool new place serves a variety of flavorful frozen treats from the sweet and tangy Original to “the world’s finest” Madagascar Vanilla. The Red Mango flavor is sweet (but not too sweet) and deliciously creamy in texture. A small serving is only 80 calories with 0 grams of fat, 2 grams of protein and 19 grams of carbohydrate. On top of the creamy goodness, you get to enjoy this healthy (and insanely yummy) treat in a chic and modern environment.
Red Mango is designed to be stylish, yet relaxing. The only problem with this health kick is that you are the one that is in charge of your own creation, which can sometimes be overwhelming. With more than 10 flavors and 20 toppings, you will spend a lot of time pondering. So come prepared, sweet tooth intact and flavors in mind.
**Yogoluv**
After Red Mango, stepping into Yogoluv was like taking a step into the Twilight Zone.
The two establishments mirrored one another in structure, with two do-it-yourself stations where you pick your choice of frozen yogurt and a counter garnished with fresh fruits and crushed candies.
But don’t let Yogoluv fool you, they have their own flavors to beat their chest to. Take a walk on the wild side with YogoLuv’s odd, yet tasty flavors and their playful green modern look that screams healthy ice-cream. The variety of interesting flavors includes Red Velvet Cake, Dulce de Leche, Egg Nog and White Chocolate Macadamia.
**Tropical Liqueurs**
Who said a frozen treat run had to be a sober one?
Trop’s has just the thing to get you in the mood for anything relaxing. Deemed the best bar for frozen cocktails in Columbia, Trop’s has a wide array of mixable frozen drinks. Walking in is like a step back in time and into a western tavern.
Not only do you have many frozen drinks to choose from, but games such a pool and darts and TVs all around. Trop’s makes it clear that you’re not going there to get on your laptop and do homework. I highly recommend the Party in Your Mouth flavor. It’s a specialty drink that isn’t on the menu, but trust me, everyone will know what you’re talking about. Be careful not to knock them back like any regular drink. Not only will Trop’s frozen cocktails give you a brain freeze, they tend to trick the mind into believing you’re drinking juice. Beware, they’re stronger than most regular cocktails.
**Buck’s**
For those who don’t have the time to shoot downtown, Buck’s offers a delicious assortment of student-made ice cream for its busy campus. Located near the Agriculture building, Buck’s not only makes their ice-cream from scratch, but they also make their own flavors, such as Tiger Stripe. So if you’re ever on the verge of an academic meltdown, Buck’s is the best place to cool off.
