An assault reported Friday at Campus Lodge Apartments was found to be unsubstantiated, according to a MU Police Department news release.
“Upon further investigation, it was determined the assault that was reported to have occurred in the parking lot of Campus Lodge Apartments on April 29th did not occur,” the release stated.
The initial report, called in to MUPD at about 10:30 a.m. Friday, sent a Clery Release to all students.
“At approximately 10:32 a.m., Friday, April 29, MUPD officers received a report of an assault that occurred in a parking lot at Campus Lodge apartments,” the release stated. “The female victim reported that around 1:35 a.m., she was assaulted by an unknown male as she approached her car.”
In a previous interview, MUPD Capt. Brian Weimer said the caller had reported being spun around by her attacker, who tried to put his hands down her pants. On Monday, Weimer said no such incident occurred.
“It didn’t happen,” Weimer said. “We want to clear this incident up around campus.”
The initial release was sent in accordance with the Jeanne Cleary Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, which requires most institutions to provide timely reports of campus crimes that affect campus.
“Such reports shall be provided to students and employees in a manner that is timely and that will aid in the prevention of similar occurrences,” the act stated.
According to the Missouri Revised Statutes, a person commits the crime of making a false report if he or she makes a false report to a law enforcement officer that a crime has occurred or is about to occur. Making a false police report is a class B misdemeanor.
