*To the tune of the Brady Bunch theme song*
Here’s the story, of a man named Brady, who was busy with a whole university of his own. He loved to talk to his constituents, and some told him MU was way below their price zone.
“I don’t like what I hear, but this is what I hear from many parents,” Chancellor Brady Deaton said at a January UM System Board of Curators meeting. “‘You know, the University of Missouri might not have a high enough tuition because our children only want to go to a more expensive institution.’ They have that image that if it’s more expensive, they’re getting more for their dollar.”
Huh?
Maybe it’s just us, but this comment seems a little off-kilter for the usually levelheaded chancellor. Why the hell would we want to pay more? In these economic times, we shouldn’t write off and justify fee increases with comments like this.
Obviously, we must want to attract today’s Paris Hiltons and Spencer Pratts to campus. I mean, Emma Watson is back on the college market after leaving Brown, so maybe if we raise our tuition a bit more, we can get her to come here. She’s rich. And then, because she’s here, we’ll probably see higher enrollment, and we will hit jackpot. Score!
Or not. Hermoine is cool, but people like the other two are not.
Chancellor Deaton, we, the students, pay enough in ever-rising course fees and tuition to attend this university already. Let’s remember that in the future, please.
