An alarm was sound at about midnight May 20 at Boone County National Bank after someone robbed the bank.
Police responded but apprehended no suspect. Later that day, police distributed photographs from a security camera of the suspect.
They have not led to any leads or arrests as of Monday, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said.
“No arrests have been made so far,” she said. She wasn’t sure if any calls had been made with more information on the suspect.
At 12:36 p.m. May 20, an unnamed man entered the bank located at 1916 Paris Road and demanded an undisclosed amount of money, a CPD news release said. Stroer said CPD never discloses the amount of money involved in an incident such as this.
An alarm was sounded, and Joint Communications subsequently advised the alarm was upgraded to a robbery.
“It originally came out as an alarm, and then a bank employee called 911 to let them know they had been robbed so it changed to a robbery call,” Stroer said.
The suspect displayed no weapon. Because the investigation is ongoing, Stroer wasn’t able to share whether the suspect verbalized any threats or anything of the sort. Nobody was hurt in the incident. He then left the bank on foot and proceeded south down Paris Road.
Stroer said incidents similar to this aren’t uncommon. According to the city’s Unified Crime Report, 84 robberies were reported from January 2010 to August 2010, 33 of which were cleared.
“Columbia has its fair share of robberies,” Stroer said.
The release described the suspect as a male in his early 20s, anywhere from 5’5” to 5’8” tall. He has short brown hair and a small to average build. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a baseball hat and jeans.
Police ask that anyone with any information on the suspect contact CPD or CrimeStoppers at (573) 875-TIPS to remain anonymous.
“We are hoping someone can identify the suspect from the video surveillance photos,” she said.
