A man who exposed himself at Ellis Library on Friday was arrested Monday.

MU Police Department arrested Willy Wray Wood, 53, on suspicion of sexual misconduct in the second degree at 3:17 p.m.

“This arrest was made possible after an individual, who had read the Clery Release sent earlier today, contacted the department and reported seeing Wood enter Ellis Library this afternoon,” a news release stated.

The original news release described the suspect.

“The suspect was described to the police as a 40 to 50-year-old white male with short gray hair,” the news release stated. “He was wearing a faded yellow polo-style shirt, khaki cargo shorts and white tennis shoes.”

From that description, an image from the library’s security cameras was used to identify the suspect. The image was released in hopes that the public would be able to identify him.

MU spokesman Christian Basi said the library has its own security office. He also said the library is available to the public.

“Faculty and staff have access to it on a regular basis and members of the public are welcome to use it for access,” Basi said. “They may not be able to check-out, but by all means they will be able to use the resources at the library.”

MUPD Captain Brian Weimer said they are not allowed to release more information about the incident in order to not effect Wood’s future trial.
