A man robbed Boone County National Bank on Friday, taking an undisclosed amount of money with him. 

Columbia Police Department officers were dispatched at 1:18 p.m. to the robbery in progress at the bank on 2811 W. Broadway. 

A white male who appeared to be holding a concealed weapon entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding money, according to a CPD news release. He then fled the bank on foot, heading eastbound on Broadway.

The gun was not displayed and no one was injured, the news release stated. CPD Spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said there was no direct proof of a weapon. 

“The teller said that he reached behind his back, put his hand behind his back, that’s it,” she said. 

Stroer said there was also one bank robbery at the end of July, one in the beginning of August and two more before that. On May 20 a different Boone County National Bank, at 1916 Paris Road, was robbed. The suspect, Louis Michael Patti, was arrested. 

Stroer said the recession is definitely a reason for the bank robberies. 

Like the robbery Friday, most of the bank robberies are quick, Stroer said. 

“Usually it’s pretty quick when they go in, their mission is to rob the bank,” she said. “I would say that probably 90 percent of the time it’s a note.”

The suspect as a white male, 6 feet tall, heavy build, dark hair with a goatee, last seen wearing blue shirt, blue jeans, ball cap and sunglasses.
