1. Police find cakey substance during traffic stop
A Columbia man was arrested after police discovered him hiding a white, cakey substance in his mouth.
An officer performed a traffic stop at Business Loop 70 and Stadium Boulevard when Jerome Farmer failed to signal around 3:24 a.m. Friday, according to a Columbia Police Department report.
Officers received consent to search Farmer and his car and found a clear plastic bag containing a white, cakey substance inside Farmer’s mouth, where he seemed to have put it to hide it from police, the report stated.
He was arrested on charges of distribution, delivery, manufacturing and production of a controlled substance, failure to signal and tampering with physical evidence.
2. Underage student hides alcohol, charged with littering
Police approached Conner Dean Mobley, 18, at 11:01 p.m. Friday in front of the Agriculture Building on suspicion of an open container.
“When he saw the officers approaching, he tried throwing away his container,” Capt. Scott Richardson said.
Mobley was found in possession of marijuana and a fake ID.
Mobley was charged with possession of intoxicants by a minor, tampering with evidence and littering, possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana and possession of a fake ID.
3. Police make arrest in Sanborn Field trespassing
Police responded to a report late Friday night of about six people on Sanborn Field, a gated field and weather station run by the College of Agriculture, an MUPD report stated.
Officers arrived at 11:44 p.m. to find Spencer Stumpf, Christopher Burford, Bryan Smith and Hannah Varel, all 18, trespassing and in possession of alcohol. The students were issued summons and ordered home.
4. Shoplifter stabs, bites police officers
Tiara Coats was arrested Friday after officers were called to a shoplifting report at the JCPenny department store at 2301 W. Worley St.
Coats attempted to escape from loss prevention, pushing one member of management and biting the loss prevention officer on the arm. She also attempted to stab the officer in the wrist with a car key. In an attempt to flee, Coats dropped her two-year-old child, who hit her head on the curb of the sidewalk.
Coats was in violation of a trespass warning for Columbia Mall and was arrested on charges of first-degree child endangerment, second-degree robbery and first-degree trespassing.
5. Disturbance leads to marijuana arrest
Damon Thompson and Rodnese Jones were arrested Friday when officers were called to the 2000 block of Sears Court for a disturbance.
The female caller said she and Thompson were in a verbal disagreement at the residence. When officers arrived, Thompson came to the door, and officers arrested him on an outstanding warrant. Officers found marijuana and several hundreds of dollars in Thompson’s pockets during a search.
Thompson had a child at home at the time of the arrest. When officers went for the child, they also discovered an electronic scale, a plastic bag with white powder residue and a paper bag, which contained 50 white tablets of Oxycodone in plain sight. On the couch was a bag of marijuana and on the hallway floor was a Springfield XD semiautomatic handgun.
Thompson and Jones were arrested on charges of child endangerment, possession of controlled substances and two counts of distribution, delivery, manufacture or production of a controlled substance.
Thompson was also charged with unlawful for certain persons to possess concealable weapon and his warrant. Jones was individually charged with failure to appear in court.
6. Police make arrests in nuisance party
Richard Thornton, Brennan Thornton and Nicholas Henning were arrested early Sunday morning after police were called about a nuisance party at about 1:45 a.m., according to a Columbia Police Department report.
They were dispatched to the Log Hill Run apartments at the 5000 block of Commercial Drive in regard to a loud party going on. 50 subjects were seen in and directly outside the residence, where yelling could be heard from inside. The three were arrested, and police ordered everyone to disperse.
7. Police stop suspect carrying suspicious object
MU police stopped a Columbia man after they saw him carrying a suspicious object.
Stewart Bozeman, 18, was walking along Mick Deaver Memorial Drive from MU Memorial stadium Sunday at 3:32 a.m.
“Officers noticed him carrying a large, black object over his shoulder,” Capt. Scott Richardson said. “It was a rug of some sorts that he’d stolen from the stadium.”
Bozeman was arrested on charges of stealing and minor in possession of intoxicants. He was released with summons.
8. Police arrest minor on charges of alcohol possession on Stankowski
MU police stopped Thomas James Paxton on Stankowski Field at 2:37 a.m. on Sunday after they saw him in possession of alcohol.
“He tried to run, and he tried to get rid of his alcohol,” Capt. Scott Richardson said.
Officers charged Paxton, 18, with resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence and minor in possession of alcohol.
