Pennsylvania-based band Circa Survive has spent the last several years establishing itself as a major name in the prog-rock scene. Founded in 2004, the band consists of vocalist Anthony Green, guitarists Colin Frangicetto and Brendan Ekstrom, bassist Nick Beard and drummer Steve Clifford.

Hot off a sell-out tour with Anberlin, Circa Survive is currently on a headlining tour across the country with openers Maps and Atlases and States. Green took the time to talk to MOVE Magazine about the tour, memories and what Circa Survive has in store for the future.

**[MOVE]**: Circa Survive is obviously a band that tours a lot. What’s your favorite thing about touring?

**[Anthony Green]**: You meet so many different people and you’re put into environments out of your comfort zone. Traveling and seeing the country is amazing. The best part about it is being able to play every night. When I was a kid and playing in bands, I would be waiting for an entire month for a show that weekend we were going to play.

**[M]**: On the other end of the spectrum, what’s your least favorite thing about touring?

**[AG]**: That would be being away from my son and my wife. We’ve been together for a really long time and she gets it, but my son is 11 months old right now, and he doesn’t really understand where daddy’s going. He just knows that daddy is not home. That’s tough for me. Transitioning between being a parent and being kind of a punk playing music and not having any responsibilities is just a strange feeling.

**[M]**: What’s a normal day on tour like?

**[AG]**: Well, today, I woke up, ate a light breakfast, and I’ve been doing pretty much music stuff all day. We just had soundcheck, where we invite members of our fan club to hang out with us. But everyday is a little different. That’s kind of one of the things exciting about it. You never know what’s around the corner.

**[M]**: Circa Survive’s latest full-length album, “Blue Sky Noise,” was a critical success. What inspired the band to make the record it turned out to be?

**[AG]**: I can’t say that anything directly influenced the making of the album, but a lot of the songs we chose for the album were songs that dealt with losing family members, dealing with issues of childbirth, and various things like that. Most of the songs that I’ve written during the “Blue Sky Noise” writing process that got on the record dealt with problems I was having about really personal things. They’re almost hard to talk about, so singing about them is even more difficult.

**[M]**: You guys have been around since 2004, and you’ve acquired quite a fan base over the years, much of which lives here in Columbia. Do you have anything to say to these fans?

**[AG]**: To everybody that listens to us, I just want to say thank you for sticking with the band for so long. I know that rock bands have a shelf life, and we’ve been really grateful that we’ve been able to grow with every record. We know that we wouldn’t have been able to do it without people keeping with the band and growing with the band.
