Final enrollment totals were released Thursday morning, and they were a bit different than administrators expected.
Vice Provost of Enrollment Management Ann Korschgen said she couldn’t say why the total numbers differed from expectations because administrators need to first analyze the data.
“Nevertheless, we were not too far off in our estimates,” she said.
Overall, enrollment grew by 1,390 since last fall and by 497 since opening day this fall. Total enrollment is officially 33,805, which Korschgen said is a couple hundred more than administrators anticipated.
“It’s wonderful to see that as our enrollment continues to grow, so does the quality of our students,” she said in a previous news release. “As the state’s flagship, land grant, research university, one of our primary missions is to prepare our students for a global economy.”
First-time college students grew by 47, less than a 1 percent change from last year. The number of transfer students increased by 16.
Conversely, the freshman class grew by 3.1 percent, 224 students more than last year. The sophomore class grew by 373 students or 6.8 percent. The junior and senior classes grew by 90 and 205 students, respectively.
“We will now begin preparing our Fall Enrollment Summary 2011 report which breaks numbers down by degree program, credit hours, demographics, geographic origin, persistence and other variables,” Korschgen said. “This should be completed in the next month or so.”

“We are pleased that so many outstanding students continue to choose to attend the University of Missouri,” Korschgen said.
