1. Student finds drugs, ID in forgotten purse
A purse on a bench outside Laws Hall containing marijuana, drug paraphernalia and three Vyvanse pills led to an arrest Thursday night.
MU Police responded to a report of drug possession at 11:23 p.m. Thursday at Lathrop Hall after a student found a purse on a bench outside Laws Hall.
“The staff looked inside the purse to see the student’s ID and found drugs and paraphernalia.” MUPD Capt. Scott Richardson said.
The purse, which contained marijuana in a medicine bottle, marijuana paraphernalia and three Vyvanse pills, belonged to Maria Beard, 18.
Vyvanse contains the schedule II drug Lisdexamfetamine, commonly used to treat ADHD.
Police were able to track down Beard with identification they found in her purse. She was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia.
2. Intoxicated freshman breaks holding cell door
An MU Police Department officer on foot patrol at 10:11 p.m. Friday near Schurz and Hatch halls saw Daniel Scott, 18, walking near parking lot AV-8 with a bottle of Jim Beam whiskey in hand.
“He noticed the officer and tried to hide the bottle,” MUPD Capt. Scott Richardson said. “He placed the bottle on the ground and began walking towards the parking lot.”
The officer stopped Scott and noticed a strong odor of intoxicants coming from him.
Scott was taken to the MU police station on charges of minor in possession of alcohol and false identification. Once in custody, Scott began acting violently.
“He tried to forcibly push the door of the holding area open and he broke the door,” Richardson said.
Police then charged Scott with second-degree property damage.
3. Student crashes car while intoxicated
MU Police Department were called to the scene of a car accident at 11:44 p.m. Friday on Grindstone Parkway.
When officers arrived at the scene they smelled alcohol on the breath of one of the drivers, Allyson Stabner, 20. Upon further investigation, officers discovered Stabner possessed a fake I.D. and was driving without insurance.
Officers arrested Stabner on charges of minor in possession of alcohol, possession of an altered I.D., driving while intoxicated and failure to maintain financial responsibility.
No one was injured in the accident.
4. Cash register stolen in liquor store burglary
Officers arrested a Columbia man in connection with a burglary early Monday morning.
Police were dispatched to a burglary alarm at 12:49 a.m. at Range Line Liquor.
A Columbia Police Department sergeant arrived at 907 Rain Forest Parkway minutes after the dispatch. The front glass of the store had been broken with a stone and the cash register stolen.
Upon securing the scene, officers were able to view the surveillance video from the business. Other officers searched the area for a suspect.
Quinton Griffin, 22, was found a few blocks from the store. His appearance and clothing were similar to the suspect in the surveillance video. Griffin was in possession of a screwdriver and a few items of clothing. A stolen cash register was located a short distance from where he was detained.
Griffin was taken to the police department, where he confessed to the burglary.
He was arrested for second-degree burglary, first-degree property damage and felony stealing.
